Driveways

When choosing a driveway it is vital that you select the correct product for yourself and your home, as it is a key feature and going to be down for a while.

There are many products on the market available for driveways, for example

Block Paving

Concrete paving

Pressed concrete

Natural stone

Loose stone / paving slabs

Natural Indian paving stone, which is shown in the picture above is an excellent choice as it is a natural product.  The benefits of this product are, it's easy to clean, no weeds, settlement and retains its natural colouring.  Block paving on the other hand over the years fades, allows weeds through making it untidy and hard to maintain and also settles over the years.  Which is why i have opted to do my family home in Indian paving.  Although being slight more expensive than block paving, the benefits of the product are appreciated more thru the later years of your driveway and home.

Customers have often asked me if Indian paving is strong enough, though on its own it isn't, its the way the drive is constructed that is most important.  The methods we use are very similar to those seen on our road's today, we have the same kind of equipment to do the same task, just on a smaller scale.  The drive is constructed with a more than adequate foundation, followed by a full mortar bed on to which the paving stones a laid.  This ensures your new driveway is more than capable of sustaining the weight of your vehicle.

The product comes in a variety of sizes and colours to suite your taste and home.

We are more than happy to also construct driveways using products, but we do recommend Indian paving.

NEW LAWS REGARDING PAVING OVER FRONT GARDENS

As of October 2008 there are new rules for customers wishing to have regular paving in an existing front garden or the reinstating of paving in a front garden area. Planning permission will be required if the customer wishes to pave for hardstanding an area of over 5 square metres - if the run off of water flows into the road. Planning permission will cost £150 and could take up to 8 weeks for a decision. The submission of scale drawings detailing the proposed works is also required. The reasoning behind this is to help ease the burden on the sewerage systems at times of very heavy rain. For traditional paving, If rainwater flows into soakaways & surface water drains no permission is required.
